DID YOU KNOW THAT (tubular fluorescent lamps T8, T5 and LED)

  Friends, there are, in almost all domestic homes and commercial or industrial spaces, T8 tubular fluorescent lamps.

The use of more efficient lighting can go through T5 fluorescent tube or LED.

Coupled with the use of T8 is in many cases, ferro-magnetic ballasts. The energy consumption of this type of ballast can be from 10% to 25% of the power of the lamp, taking into account the age (generation) of the ballast. The older they are, more energy they spend.

In the industrial sector, the massive use of this type of ballast may also lead to a reactive energy consumption and pollution from electrical network so that the client will have to fix it with capacitor banks. The degree of pollution of the network will set up the batteries should be active or passive.

When changing the ferro-magnetic ballast by electronic ballast, we are talking about a efective consumption reduction of even 10% to 25% for < 1% in the case of the latest generation ballasts.

If you change for a tubular LED, as a rule, they now came prepared to be connected directly to 230V, so, we eliminate the ballast.

When we change and what the best option?

When we change T8 ferro-magnetic ballast for T5 electronic ballast, the exchange can result in real savings in consumption up to 40%. On the other hand, T5, with less power, light emitted less. Here you'll have to set whether to maintain the same luminance or you can give up some. The comfort and welfare must always be present and the client should first test the solution (if possible). In the case of domestic customers, I believe that the exchange is more beneficial than harmful, but if the customer is commercial / industrial, existing standards for minimum lux in the various work areas can prevent this change.

In the case of replacement LEDs, the cost thereof can be very disadvantageous for the domestic customer (when using the illumination is of a few hours, the investment payback exceed 10 years!) But in the case of industrial customers, the study of energy savings vs. time of use vs. lifetime use and maintenance could ever prove advantageous. Moreover, the switch T5 to T8 or LED can occur with the same lamp support minimizing the cost of labor and equipment at the exchange.

Table of correspondence:

- 1500mm T8 (58W), we have a 49W T5 or LED 24/25W;

- 1200mm T8 (36W), we have a 28W T5 or 18W LED;

- 600mm T8(18W), we have a 14W T5 or LED 8/10W.NOTE: There are LEDs of these dimensions with other powers. The custommer will choose if he wants to maintain or decrease the luminescence.
